Douro 4x4 Tours

Pickup in Foz Côa, Meda or Pinhão. Off-road trails and breathtaking viewpoints.

The Upper Douro is the wildest and least visited part of the region: dirt roads between almond and olive groves, schist villages, and viewpoints you can only reach by 4x4. We pick up in Foz Côa, Meda and Pinhão.

    Where we go

The routes follow tracks most visitors never see, with stops at viewpoints above the river's bends. The area borders the Côa Valley Archaeological Park, also a World Heritage site, known for its open-air rock engravings.

    What the tour is like

A local guide always drives — you do not. The jeeps are set up for dirt tracks, and stops are planned so you can get out, take photos and hear the region's history without rushing.

    Best time of year

Almond blossom, from February to March, and the grape harvest, from September to October, are the two most sought-after windows. In summer, early morning or late afternoon tours are far more comfortable — the Upper Douro is one of the hottest parts of the country.
