100 Montanhas is registered as a tourist entertainment agent (RNAAT 681/2022) and recognised as a Nature Tourism company by ICNF. We operate out of Serra da Estrela and take people to places that require someone who knows them.
Plenty of people cross Serra da Estrela by car up to Torre, photograph the altitude marker and drive back. You get mainland Portugal's highest point and almost nothing else: the glacial valleys, the cirques, the high-altitude lakes, the schist villages below, and a night sky with no competing light for tens of kilometres.
Closing that gap is why 100 Montanhas exists. We work by 4x4, on foot and at night, depending on what the place and the season call for: some trails are only worth it at first light, some viewpoints only pay off with the sun going down, and on some clear nights the right thing to do is get out of the vehicle and look up for an hour.
Beyond Serra da Estrela we operate in the Douro — boat and 4x4 among the wine estates — and run multi-day trekking expeditions in Gerês, Alvão, Caramulo and the wild Douro. Different formats, same rule: small group, a guide who knows the ground, and no routes designed to fit a coach.
Private 4x4 tours carry up to 4 people per vehicle and trekking expeditions run in limited groups. We don't do coaches or 40-person departures: on a mountain, group size is the difference between seeing a place and being driven past it.
We don't ask for a deposit or card details to book. You pay on the day, on arrival. Free cancellation up to 48 hours before — mountain weather turns fast and nobody should be locked into a date because of it.
We work the same trails, plateaus and viewpoints all year round. That's what makes it possible to decide, on the morning of a tour, that the fog over Covão d'Ametade will lift and that the route is worth reversing rather than cancelling.
The person answering WhatsApp and email is the person who guides. There's no call centre and no middleman — ask whether a trail suits an 8-year-old and the answer comes from someone who has walked it with one.
We don't subcontract guides. The person meeting you is the person who works here.
Founder and guide
Sérgio is the person who meets you, drives and guides. 100 Montanhas operates as a sole trader under RNAAT 681/2022 with the ICNF — no subcontracted guides, no shared operation: when you book, you already know who you'll be going with.
RNAAT 681/2022 registration in the National Register of Tourist Entertainment Agents requires personal accident and public liability insurance for every participant. It's included in the price of every experience, without exception.
Our 4x4 vehicles are inspected and maintained, and tours follow authorised tracks within the Natural Park. When conditions aren't safe — snow, ice, high wind on the plateau, thick fog — we change the route or postpone at no cost. It is never a commercial decision.
